LYDIA KEENE’S 1899 VOYAGE AROUND THE WORLD
Local author Joan Gregoire will give a presentation on her recently published book, The Lydessy: Lydia Keene’s 1899 Voyage Around the World in her own words, chronicling her grandmother’s historic voyage on a merchant schooner in 1899. Stormy seas and high winds, becalmed in extreme heat, being one of only three women on a ship full of robust sailors, tales of this adventure give a wonderful insight into life aboard ship at the end of the 19th century.

GROWING UP AT CAMP BISCAY
Bremen resident Mary Bryant Berger will share stories of Camp Biscay, where she and her siblings spent their childhood at the family’s home and summer camp on Biscay Pond. Mary’s parents offered children a carefree summer, with emphasis on life in the open under sun and stars, with stress on fair play, friendliness and helpfulness. Activities included horseback riding, tennis, golf, archery, swimming, sailing, crafts, dancing, music, hiking, and good food!
